Seeing that as Mike says 60% of the trout are caught in the first two weeks.(which I think is a bunch of bull) I catch trout all year. So does any one who puts in the time. Give the yahoos their two weeks. Didn't you ever hear the old saying"10% of the fisherman catch 90% of the fish"?
Considering most hatchery trout are borderlne suicidal when first dropped in I'd buy off on the 60% number. They also tend to stay schooled up unless we get a good rain to wash them about. Don't forget there are supplemental stockings a few weeks after opening day as well. Naturally and logically if you are willing to put in the work and go to some unpressured areas you will find fish. In fact that is generally what I do as I prefer not to fish shoulder to shoulder.
