Just got home from Zappa plays Zappa at the Chevy
(Oakdale)theatre. I was a bit disapointed that they didn't play a single song from Joe's garage or for that matter any of his other greatest hit's.
They played a lot of obscure stuff I never heard of. I recognized three songs. But despite that it was a great show. From a musical stand point it was incredible. Not exactly sure how to explain it, but you would get caught up in the music and get lost in it. The sound carried you away to another place in your mind.
Throughout most of the show they had ten musicians on stage. 4 guitars 2 drummers
2 keyboardist/sax 1 percusionist 1 singer/sax.
They closed with each drummer doing a couple minute solo each and then came together for a dual on drums. Followed up by some incredible guitar work.
Even if you a marginal fan of Zappa or just someone that loves beautiful music, I highly recomend you check them out.
