We both work from home and I travel a lot for work so not having to worry about a job made it easy. We sold everything in CT and took hardly anything with us and that was t he best decision makes life so much easier.

The twins are not the "college" type so finding a decent job in CT was tough for them. Down here they have been able to find jobs with out a problem. One is currently interviewing for a maintenance job at The Citadel that would be a state job. They have since moved out on their won and doing honestly much better then I thought they would. They are building down here at record pace lots of companies are moving to this area and there are two major ports (Charleston and mount Pleasant). Boeing moved part the operation of the Dreamliner here from Seattle and BMW, Benz and Volvo all have plants.

Housing in the Mount Pleasant area is more expensive then it was in CT and that is mainly because it is where everyone wants to be. Mt Pleasant is only few miles from Charleston and two beaches and most all the shopping in the area is here and very low crime and some of the best schools in the state. You can go a few miles out to Summerville area and fins new houses for mid 200 or less. Most other things are less expensive ie: food, utilities, BEER, seafood most taxes. We are building a 470K house and our taxes will be about $1200.00 per year that is less then a 1/3 of my house in CT that is worth half as much. The sales tax is about 9% on mostly everything but that offsets cost other things like car registration it was $74.00 and that included a license for 10yrs and new title for first time registration. I have a 2012 BMW 528 and my property tax was $182.00 for a year and you pay tax and reg all in the same place it took 15minutes. You can drive golf carts on roads with a 35mph speed limit so we find our selves saving gas using the cart for a $5.00 permit fee.

I have not fished out here yet but it seems to be very good, we are surrounded by salt marshes and creeks and the shrimp in the summer are everywhere and cheap and no it is oyster and blue crab season. You can have two cast nets and fill a 40qt cooler a day with shrimp without a license/permit. I want to give that a shot next summer. I know a lot of people go for redfish and red drum in the marshes .

All and All it was the best decision we ever made. Plus the weather is not all that bad either.

Jay, don't forget to mention the difference in weather here. Im still wearing short sleeve shirts to work with no jacket. Just being outside of Charlotte, things are a little higher but others balance it out. Just before the oil price increase recently I was paying just over $2 a gallon for gas, for a while we were below $2 a gal. Now if I could only get out and fish more down here. Only been a couple times, starting to find a few places I can go sans boat.
